WHAT ARE THE BEST CREDIT CARD OFFERS
When searching the web for a new credit card, many people begin by entering the words “best credit card.” Unfortunately, there is no true “best credit card.” In fact, the best credit card for one person may be a bad offer for another. Below, we break down the 2008 J.D. Power Rankings to help you find the best credit card for your spending style.
The Winners
- American Express – This perennial leader of the pack earned five star rankings in every category, including overall satisfaction. Consumers who spend a lot, pay their bills in full monthly, and don’t mind paying an annual fee to get top tier rewards fare best with American Express. Consumers looking for 0% APR balance transfers or no fee rewards may find themselves happier with another brand. With all that in mind, our pick for the best American Express card is Blue Cash®. This cash back credit card offers a 0% APR on purchases for up to 12 months and offers a no fee cashback rewards program. You can review the details below or compare all American Express cards in their respective section.

- Discover – The consistent number two in the rankings is, in our opinion, often the best credit card for the vast majority of consumers. Why? Discover offers incredible value with 0% APR offers on balance transfers and purchases for a full year, a solid, no fee cash back rewards program, and the lowest rate of customer complaints amongst all credit card companies. Using the Discover® More(SM) Card for a 0% balance transfer could save a person with a $5000 balance on a 14% interest credit card around $700 over the course of a year. Plus, they offer a number of ways to earn cashback of up to 20% on certain online specials. You can review the details below or compare all Discover cards in their respective section.

The Also Rans
The primary business of American Express and Discover is credit cards. Such is not the case for major banks. Not surprisingly, then, many of the largest issuers of credit cards didn’t fare particularly well in the J.D. Power Rankings. Here’s a brief rundown on the big banks.
- Citi Cards – Number seven in the rankings is a good choice for consumers looking for a MasterCard, and they do offer some quality rewards programs. You can compare all Citi cards in their respective section.
- Bank of America - The number one bank in the country ranked 9th in the survey, garnering only two stars in all but one category. They offer a wide range of Visa and MasterCard offers that provide 0% interest rates on cash advances and balance transfers. You can compare all Bank of America cards in their respective section.
- Capital One – With two stars across the board, Capital One came in second to last in this year’s rankings (HSBC took the last place honors). However, we’re not so sure Capital One deserved its poor position. While it earned two stars across the board, Capital One does offer some of the best cards for travel, particularly to individuals with excellent credit. Its No Hassle Miles cards allows you to earn miles 25% faster than with most airline rewards cards and, if you are traveling abroad, Capital One is the only credit card company that does not charge international transaction fees (most companies charge a 3% fee). Below you can view the details of our top pick from Capital One. You can also compare current offers in the Capital One section.

Final Thoughts
While J.D. Power rankings provide good insight into what a majority of people think about credit card companies, it is important to consider the factors that will provide you with the most value from your credit card. In uncertain times such as these, the best credit card for most people is the card that will save you the most money. To find that card, the best place to start is often a 0% APR credit card, regardless of who is issuing the card.
