How to Compare Credit Cards
Comparing credit card offers is confusing for a reason: the banks want it to be. However, finding the best credit card deal is possible when you take the right factors into consideration before applying. What are the right factors? Interest rate (APR), introductory rate, and fees.
When you compare credit cards, look for a credit card that offers a low long term interest rate. What’s a low interest rate? Today, the average credit card interest rate is about 14%. Look for something below that and you’re off to a good start.
The second factor to compare is the introductory rate. The best credit cards offer 0% interest on purchases and balance transfers for 1 year. The average credit card offers 0% for about 6 months. If you want the best deal, apply for a credit card that offers 0% for 1 year on purchases and balance transfers.
Lastly, there is absolutely no reason to pay an annual fee. Period. Some airline rewards cards charge fees of up to $85. Put that cash towards your next ticket and avoid the fee.
